Yesterday we rode bareback in the arena for about 20 minutes. We did a lot of trotting and cantering(yay!). I must say, he's getting pretty responsive to leg and seat cues.
After our ride in the arena, we saddled up and headed up the big hill to the trails. We had a snow storm a few days ago, so there was a good amount of snow on the ground. As usual, he walked on a loose/free rein the whole ride. We did quite a bit of cantering and galloping in a couple of the fields back in the trails. He got sweaty, but not enough to make me worry about him getting cold while cooling/drying off. After each length of galloping, he came back down to a walk on a free rein with no issues. When we were done having fun, we trotted and then walked each field that we were using so he knows he can't gallop off when we get to those fields on the trail! Of course, he had no issue walking them when I asked. Good pony! =)
On the Kazi front, not much to report! Honestly, I haven't spent much time with him in the past couple of weeks. Danielle's lease with him is up in a few days, so I figured I would back out of the horsey triangle (lol) until the lease is over.
Financially, it would really benefit me to find another lessee. Buuut, I kind of don't want to! Since Kazi is still "in training", I don't want him to get confused with two people's different cues, methods, or whatever. I think I'll advertise him and see what replies I get, and take it from there.
PS- I HATE that blanket!!! It's too big, and not of very good quality!

Beautiful horses! I've been on the hunt for a decent blanket too, but our winters are so mild here and it's almost over so I think I'm just going to end up waiting until next year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Kazi!
ReplyDeleteThe more I shop for other tack, the more I find good deals on blankets!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ruffles.. I hope all is going well with Ritchie! =)
