Kicking off the new year!

On New Years Eve, Danielle (the girl who is leasing Kazi), Sandy (barn owner), and I went on a short trail ride through the pine woods. It was a nice little ride to end the year with.

Today Bones and I went up the big hill to the majority of the trails and spent a good solid hour and a half out there. The ground was still hard throughout most of the trails, but some places had a layer of mud on top of the frozen ground. Bones stayed nice and calm for most of the ride. He spooked at a couple of things, but he has learned to "spook in place" rather than jet off sideways and run for it! We did a good bit of trotting, cantering, and even a short spurt of galloping (our first time!). He didn't get overly excited when I let him run, and came back to a calm walk on a loose rein whenever I asked. Bones is usually very leery of simple things like logs, big rocks, water puddles, etc. But, today he took everything in stride and trusted me when I asked him to relax, investigate, and move on from the object. He even walked calmly over a few ditches that he had previously got very nervous and just leaped over.

It was a wonderful ride, and if it is any projection as to how the year is going be.. I, for one, am very excited for 2011!
