...in the air!
First off, remember that cut on Bones' left hind medial gaskin? It's still slightly swollen with moderate heat, so I called my vet back out last week. She examined the leg, and decided to take radiographs. He had to be sedated, because he thought the radiograph machine (or whatever the correct term is!) was going to eat him alive! The vet called me later that day with what she found in the radiographs. There is a foreign body in the leg. She said it looks like bone, but she didn't notice any fracture on the leg.. unless the fracture has already healed. We discussed two options. One, surgery. Surgery will cost around $250-300, and is only able to be done in 50 and above degree weather. So, basically either this fall or next spring. The second option is to wait and see if the foreign body comes out on it's own. I decided to wait and see if it comes out by itself, the vet agreed that, that is a logical decision. As of now, my plan is to hope and pray it come out on it's own, and if it doesn't.. he will have the surgery in the Spring. He is sound, so she said he is fine for riding as long as it doesn't get worse. Who knew that tiny cut would cause such problems!
We've been having some really nice rides lately. Since moving him to Dyer Farms, he has been my sole riding horse so the consistent riding is really paying off. Since I don't currently have an instructor, the pictures and videos have really been helping me notice things I need to work on. From these pictures, I think I need to get my legs more underneath myself, heels further down, toes in, elbows close to my sides, keep my hands in the correct position, and maybe shorten my reins a bit. But, I don't think my position is TOO bad.. considering I've been practically self-taught thus far!
My mom loves Bones. She rides him occasionally, mostly at the walk.. maybe 15 seconds trotting, lol!
This is Mai, the lessee.
Onto the "change"!
Mai and I have discussed several options to move Bones back to MMS. We've decided that Mai will do a full lease, and move him back to MMS. WHICH MEANS!, I'm getting a new horse!
This is Blue Spruce Rhian, aka "Rio". A 1996 model Polish Arabian. Rio was one of the Canterbury Farm Arabians. He has a pretty intense abuse past, and definitely has trust issues. I went to see him yesterday, and he is very sweet. He was stand-offish.. but slowly started to come around.
Bones is leaving this Friday, and Rio is coming either this Friday, or next. Exciiiiitedddd! =D!

I love the photos!! Bones and his leaser look good together :)
ReplyDeleteRio is absolutely gorgeous. Good luck with him.
