Slip N' Slide

Mai, Bones' lessee, bought him a D-ring french link to try. He has been ridden in a loose-ring french link since he was started under saddle. I think he goes really well in it, but Mai wanted to try the d-ring in hopes that it will make him "follow his nose" and help him bend. I've ridden in the bit 3 times now, and I have found that when I ask him to give his head he plows down into the bit and gets heavy on the forehand. Buuut, since the two bits are extremely similar, I don't want to place blame on the d-ring.. it may just be a bad habit forming.

On Saturday, I decided to ride in the outdoor arena even though it was still a bit soggy from rain a few days prior. We were having a decent ride, doing a nice collected canter when Bones just slipped right from under me. He slipped completely sideways, I came off, and my leg got caught under him. We both jumped right up. I checked Bones over, trotted him a bit and he looked fine so I hopped back on. Despite some soreness on my end, we rode for an additional 10 minutes and called it quits. He didn't seem to be sore from the fall, but I still gave him a couple of days.
After I fed this morning, I rode Bones briefly in the round pen and took a couple of videos. Most of the video was blank, so I took some screen shots. They're super blurry.. but you'll have that! =P

Apparently my reins were too long today! Ohsy wellsy! Lol
