It's a good day when you get to ride an Arabian

I recently started a part time barn job at a small private farm. It's only a five stall barn, and I believe on 10 acres. The owners have two Arabian geldings, two Quarter Horse geldings, and one Quarter Horse mare. They're all very sweet, and quality horses.

Today I got to ride one of the Arabs, Lincoln. He's a little thing.. only about 14.2. I was surprised that I didn't feel ridiculous on him.

I expected him to be a bit spunky, with have a month off riding, but he was fine. I lunged for 5 minutes before hopping on, and could tell I was going to love riding him. He has that willingness to please to I just adore about Arabians. He loves the "good boy!". The outdoor arena was covered in snow, so we only walked and trotted. We worked on figure 8's, varies sizes of circles, and giving to the bit. Mostly just figuring each other out. He gave a few small spooks.. but, I just got his attention and kept him busy, to keep his mind off of the "scary" this.

Overall, it was a really great ride and I can't wait to spend more time on him.

I have permission to ride all of the horses, so I hope to introduce each of them as I get to know them better.

  2. He looks a lot like Booger, the half Arabian filly I work with :) There's something about Arabians that makes you not feel ridiculous on them even when they're short :)
