Full work

Ginger is officially in "full work". Which, in my definition, means she is being worked 5-7 days a week. Whether it be dressage/flat work, jumping, or going on a "condition hack". Our indoor arena is really small.. so it's quite hard to get work done in there. Especially with a big strided TB.

Last Thursday we did flat work in the indoor. We worked on staying straight, moving off leg, and walk-trot transitions.

Friday was our first jump school. We actually just went over ground poles and a few 12" cavaletti/verticals. Ginger went over everything just fine (we've done ground poles and cavaletti before).

Saturday was another jump school. This time we started with ground poles, then 18" verticals, then went over a few barrels laid on their side. She didn't refuse a thing, and was very honest.

Sunday was a condition hack. I wanted to walk most of the trail and do some canter sets once we got to a certain field, but Ginger was being feisty so we trotted the majority of the time. I got off at one point to take pictures of her by the pond. It was like hell trying to get back on her.. her focus was just elsewhere. She was definitely ready to go that day, but we compromised at a trot and actually had a decent ride.

Monday was a flat work day. We did worked more on straightness, moving off leg, and transition work. This time we focused more on trot-canter transitions, verses walk-trot. She moved off my leg noticeably better that on Friday. Like, MUCH better.

Yesterday (Tuesday) we went on a condition hack. We were able to trot most of the trails, and ended up going off trail a lot to find logs to pop over. It was a really great ride. I had a ton of fun, Ginger seemed to enjoy herself as well. =)

Today Gingy got a (much needed) bath. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me so no squeaky clean pics of the mare.

Sorry for the boring rundown of our week.. it's hard to be detailed when you aren't diligent about blogging. =P

I haven't done a lot with Ollie in the past couple of weeks. Today when I brought her in to give her grain/supps, she jerked away when I was switching her halter and ran off in the barn. So I caught her and did a quick and stern groundwork refresher. I took her into the arena and did more groundwork exercises and lunging. She's so responsive, she has sooo much potential. But she has way too much energy and not a big enough attention span! Lol
I wasn't planning on riding her but saddled her up and did some canter work. Her canter is just awful. It's hard to do canter work in the arena we have, especially when the horse is speeding around like a lunatic. By the end of the ride she was going slower (probably just tired) and didn't seem as panic-y.

Bonesy left for a 30 day trial on Sunday. The lady said he is settling in just fine and they had a nice ride in the arena. I really like this lady and hope she wants to keep him!
