Let's try that again..

NEW HORSE!

I bought a little cow bred QH mare yesterday. She's going to be a project, but I'm so up to it.

I only got to work with her for maybe 10 minutes. In horrible footing. In the same pasture with her mother that she hasn't been weaned from (she's 5 years old). But, she calmed down a little bit quickly, and picked up what I was asking of her quickly as well. If I went to see this horse without knowing her issues and that she needs a lot of work, I would have walked away within the first two minutes.

I decided to put the stud chain on her nose, which she has never had on before. The only place I had to work with her was in the pasture that she is kept (WITH HER MOTHER!). The footing was horrrrible, and it was on a big hill. The top of the pasture was flat-ish, so I took her up there. Once we got up there, the first time she felt that chain on her nose she flew backwards and tried to run away (go figure). I held my ground and didn't let her get away. We did a lot of little circles well, because, that's about all we could do. She didn't try to run in to me, bite me, or kick me so I was happy with that! LOL! When I went to pick up her front leg, as soon as I ran my hand a tiny bit down her leg she flung it up and stomped it back down. She did that several times, then reared up a little. I gave a yank on the chain and once she was back on the ground I immediately picked up her foot, she gave it to me very nicely and let me hold it there for a few seconds before I put it down. I also backed her up a few times just to see if she knew how, I don't think she did! Or maybe she was just being stubborn. Lol Then I had Angie (a trainer at the barn I board at) come up and hold her so I could snap a few pictures. None of them are very good, she wouldn't stand still.

She's a cutie, and I really think she has potential to be a nice horse. Right now, my plan is to work with her for several months, and sell her. I think I that I will try barrels with her. If I end up liking her, I'll keep her.. but I'm leaving my options open!
By the way, if anyone has any name suggestions let me know! Her registered name is Parrs Sweet Olena. Right now her name is "Sweetums" YUCK!
Angies daughter suggested "Ollie" which I really like.

This is her when she was a 3 year old
These are the pictures from the seller (great selling pictures, right?)

Sweetums is on the left (black hatler), her mother is on the right (pink halter)

These are the ones I took. She's such a cutie!

Wish me luck! XD
