Texas A&M DNA results

In April, I sent a sample of Drogo's hair for DNA testing. I always thought he looked like a Morgan cross. His old owner thought Friesian cross. I also heard Arab/Friesian.

I had a vet discuss the results with me. She said he COULD be a Hanoverian cross.. as a lot of nurse mare farms use whatever "leftover" semen they have from their "fancy" breeding program, to breed the nurse mares. With reading the

philogenetic tree and considering his apperance, we ultimately decided to call him a Morgan cross. He does show traits of a Mountain Pleasure Horse as well. But, does not gait, so for simplicity, I stick with Morgan cross.

  1. I work with a mare who is an Arabian x MFT. She doesn't gait and she just looks like an Arabian. When people ask what she is, I just tell them she's an Arab cross. Simplicity!!

    1. I also think there is some prejudice against gaited breeds. I don't want others to automaticly discredit Drogo because of the possible MPH in him.
