There is a lot to update, I'll give the short story.
I no longer work/live at the dressage barn. I sent my Nona mare back to the reacue I got her from (I had her on lease/trial). I still have Ollie.
Ollie is at a small family barn where I clean stalls a few weeks in exchange for board. I really like the barn but, Ollie is not getting turned out nearly enough. I don't mind her staying IN every once in a while but, she is only going OUT every once in a while.
So, I am planning on moving her. I have two barns to choose from and would love ppinions on where I should go!
Barn A:
Pasture boarding
$150
Includes hay and grain. Nice pastures.
Barn has an outdoor arena and round pen. Close to offsite trails.. not in riding distance and I don't have a trailer.
Barn is 18 miles away, about 30 minutes.
Positives of Barn A are 24/7 turnout and price.
Negatives of Barn A are distance and somewhat limited riding areas.

Barn B:
Full stall boarding
$300
Includes hay, grain, turnout, stall cleaning .
Horses are turned out at 9am and brought in jist before dark..abput 12hrs of turnout this time of year.
Several very nice pastures ranging from 4-17 acres.
Barn has indoor and outdoor arenas. And access to 600 acres of trails.
Barn is 9miles and about 15ish minutes away.
Positives of Barn B are distance, tons of trails, indoor arena.
Negatives of Barn B are.. it is stall board, although they value turnout, and price.
I'm definitely leaning towards Barn B. The trails and distance really have me almoat sold. But, I really love the pasture boarding option at Barn A. Barn A is also half the cost of Barn B, but double the distance.
ARGH!

DeleteI say go for Barn B, you never know if you'll need a stall for medical or weather reasons (you didn't mention Barn A having stalls, so idk) and it may be more, but it sounds like you'll get more out of it.
ReplyDeleteBarn A does have stalls. But, their barn is small with only six stalls which are typically filled. I think with Barn B being so keen on turnout, Ollie being stalled at night will be just fine.
DeleteNo input, but I WISH we could get full stall board for $300 around here.
ReplyDelete$300 is pretty average around here for a non-show type barn. There is a barn close by that is like $1100. Which, to me, is insane.
DeleteThanks for the input! I'm 98% sure I will be moving her to Barn B. I really liked he owners and felt like they really cared ablut the horses . Also, I haven't Mapquested it yet but, Barn B is like 5 miles from my job. Another huge plus.
