The good, the bad, the ugly!

I kind of have a lot to write about.. but I'll try to keep it short(ish).

Last Tuesday Connie came from Cleveland to pick up Kazi for the 2 week trial. It was a seamless transaction, we did the paperwork, Kaz loaded great.. and they were off! She texted me a picture of him in his new stall right when they got there, and told me he was settling in already. She had the vet out on Friday morning for the vet check, and said it went great. She didn't feel the need to continue the trial, and sent me a check that day. Yay! and BOO! Lol She's going to give him a fantastic home.. so knowing that makes it a lot easier to deal with.
BUT!, literally like 10 minutes after I deposited the check into my bank today she called me and said that there was a problem. Apparently Kazi has been battling with colic for the past couple of days. She had the vet out Sunday, tubed him, banamine and all that. He seemed like he was doing better, then today it got worse so she decided to let me know. Vet came out about an hour after I talked to Connie, and I guess he is doing a lot better now. I'm still worried.. colic is such a nasty and unpredictable thing. =/

Annnywhooo, I've seen like 6 thoroughbreds in the last 3 days! Haha. I got off work early on Saturday, so I decided to go see a few TB's that I had scheduled to see later in the week. It was about a two and a half hour drive up there.. my mom and her husband came with me so it felt like 3! Lol. There were two mares and a yearling gelding. One of the mares was the yearling's dam. She was the more well trained of the two mares, and in better condition. The other mare was skinny and had a crap ton of rain rot. She didn't know shit under saddle, and was quite the little bee-otch! The yearling was sweet, and is going to be a gorgeous boy when he matures.. but, I don't think I want to wait 2 years to ride! =P
They were asking $500 for the momma mare, $500 for the yearling, and $850 for the skinny mare (backwards, I know!). I offered $300 for the skinny mare just because she needs SO much work. I would definitely consider her a rescue. Understandably, they didn't want to go that low and said they would take $575. But, it would take a lot of money and time to get weight on her, get rid of that nasty rain rot, and THEN think about all the training and manners she needs! PASS!
But yeahhhh, it ended up taking us like over double the time to get home due to mom's "back road directions". We didn't get home until 2:30 freaking AM! And my mom's husband got pulled over. =O

So obviously I didn't go to work at 6:30am when I went to bed at 2:30am. Sooo Sunday became another road trip day to see more horses! Haha These guys were about an hour and a half away, and in the same direction as the ones from the day before. They are both geldings, and both just came from the track on Thursday(!). I initially e-mailed about Mending Vows- a 4 year old, 16.2HH TB gelding. Very beautiful boy, and would make a knock out hunter/jumper. The other is Luhukatmego- a 7 year old 16-16.1HH TB gelding. I love this guy. He is just breathtaking. He is a solid bay, but has a presence about him that makes him anything but plain.
When I got to the farm (gorgeous drive, btw.. through Amish country) I was met by a lively little British woman. It was raining, therefore muddy and swamped! We got into the (flooded) barn and first checked out Luhuka. He is definitely "mouthy" but seems like it a few pops on the mouth will fix that. His fronts were pin fired, but other than that he has clean legs and is sound. He's affectionate and seeks out attention. Then we went to Vows stall. She told me right away that he is off on his right hind. Seems to have an infection or something near his hock. So, I didn't spend much time with him (BOO on that! He is gorgeous!).
So we decided to just tack up Luhuka. He was quite mouthy while tacking up. Normally he would have gotten his fair share of pops in the mouth, but I don't like to slap other people's horses! Lol Jenni hopped on and showed me what he could do. It was super muddy out so riding places were limited. He was hyped up, which I expected, but overall did really well. She took him over a couple of low jumps. He didn't agree at first, but eventually went over them (even got enthusiastic! Lol) He doesn't know much other than "go in a straight line".. but he was very willing. I only rode him for a few minutes.. the saddle didn't fit me well, and my feet would barely go in the stirrups lol. I really liked him, so we agreed on a price and talked about arranging pick up. He needs his feet done, and the papers have to be sent to her so it will be a few days before I can get him.

I'm super excited!!!
He's going to need some time to adjust to "normal" horse life. We're going to focus on lots of dressage, ground manners, and eventually some trail riding.. hopefully.. lol. It will be a while before we start jumping.

Also, this guy is kind of an option at this point as well.. but I'll write about that another time! hahaha

Oh yeah, almost forgot! I just ordered some new boots!
http://tackoftheday.com/extra/default.aspx

I was actually looking at these exact boots on SmartPak for double the price.. and decided to see what was on tackoftheday.com. I had to get 1/2 size to big, and I wanted black but they only have the Mocha color. But, I read that these boots typically run 1/2 size to big.. and I guess color doesn't matter for schooling! I REALLY wanted these boots. and ALMOST ordered them.. but I couldn't pass up the deal on the Mountain Horse boots. If the MH boots don't work out, I'll get the Tredsteps.
