Sore!

Saturday was very sunny and around 35 degrees. I got to the barn around 12:15pm, and had to be at work at 3pm. Since it was so nice (for February!) I wanted to take one of the boys for a short trail ride. I didn't want to fuss with the saddle.. so I just hopped on bareback with his bridle. Haley, who now owns Areem, wanted to go out with me. She's 14, and I'm always skeptical to bring younger people on the trail with me.. but, I know Arty is good on the trail so I agreed to it. We headed up the big hill, went down the big hill, and onto one of the trails. We hiked down the main trail, and turned around at the end of it.
Once we got back to the  top of the big hill, Haley's saddle had come loose and slipped under Arty. I heard her scream and turned around to see her on the ground with her foot still in the stirrup. I yelled for her to get her foot out of the stirrup, and thankfully she did. Areem ran off, with the saddle still under him, and Kazi started to freak out and tried to bolt. Since I was bareback, I came off pretty easily. I didn't hit the ground too hard, luckily! I ran to see if Haley was okay and she was. We both ran down the hill to see where the horses were. Kazi had jumped the fence into the field where the mares are kept, and Arty was laying down half way under the fence. He just laid there. That scared the shit out of me!
Paul and Jenna, who are Haley's step dad and sister, heard all of the commotion and ran from the barn to where Areem was. When we all reached Areem, he got up and was caught easily. I grabbed his saddle and handed Haley his pad. Paul ended up taking the saddle so I could go catch Kazi.
The reins had slipped over his head and got caught under his leg. That also scared the shit out of me! Lol So happy that he has a naturally gentle and forgiving nature and just gave to the pressure of the bit instead of freaking out.
Anyways, I caught Kazi and brought him into the barn and checked him over. He didn't have any cuts, heat, swelling, or anything. I put him in the stall with lots of water and let him cool off for about an hour. Fed him, and turned him out.  I was almost an hour late for work, BOO!
I'm still sore all through my neck and on my left hip.. nothing major though!
