Last weekend I got the chance to visit Bones. It was so great to see him fat and happy!
His owner actually contacted me a month or so ago about possibly putting him for sale. Bones is her husband's horse, and he isn't riding and he doesn't want Bones to just sit. I told her that if they do decide to sell, I will definitely buy him back. At this point it's still up in the air as to what they're going to do. I think they will end up keeping him. I would love to have him back, but I'm very happy with the home he has. Either way, I know he will be safe and happy and that's what matters!
In other news.. the lease with Pepper didn't work out. I am still heartbroken about it. But, ultimately I made the decision that leasing is not for me. I offered to buy Pepper but the owner did not want to sell. I am on good terms with the owner and have visitation rights. ;)
I wanted nothing more than to keep Pepper forever, but in the long run I am not comfortable being responsible for someone else's horse. I hope one day his owner will sell him to me.. but I don't think it will happen. :(
Annnd, that brings me to Weston. The new kid in town. I had strongly considered taking a break from horses after Pepper left. But let's be real.. that wasn't going to happen! Lol
Weston is an 8 year old OTTB that I had inquired about before I got Pepper. I decided to pass because, well, I much preferred Pepper (and still do.. sorry, Weston!). But, I found that he was still available after it was decided that Pepper was going back, so I inquired again.
At this point Weston was being offered for free. I knew he had some quirks and figured that's why he hadn't found a home.
An abscess appeared the day before he was scheduled to come to me. " "
I'm pretty sure it didn't just show up then.. but whatever. The vet come the next day and dug it out. We gave him an extra week and half before moving him as he was still very sore.
I expected him to be a little sore once he came home.. but he is STILL sore. I've had him for three weeks. He is definitely improving but it looks like this will be a long healing process. Poor boy. This is why i don't like vets digging abscesses out.

I can't see the photos :( sorry to hear about Pepper!
ReplyDeleteAlso glad to hear Bones is happy and that you have a new horse :)
